The first thing many people want to know about the Japanese Actraiser is if it's any different from the U.S. version, and the answer would be yes. There are a few differences in the Japanese version, but only a very perceptive Actraiser player will be able to pick up on them. For instance, the main difference in creation mode is that using the miracle powers uses almost double the SP it took to do miracles in the U.S. version. This means that you'll have to wait a longer period of time between miracles to charge up again, forcing you to battle the SIM monsters for a longer time to save your village. The Action mode if made a little harder by the appearance of new enemies and the placement of harder enemies in earlier levels. For instance, the tree mini-boss of Filmore can drop small seedling enemies from his branches in the Japanese version. Also, sometimes enemies cause you more damage in this version.

Another difference between the two versions lies in the plotline. The major difference is that instead of taking on the role of "The Master," you're taking on the role of "God" and fighting "Satan" instead of "Tanzra." It's basically a word change, but back in the olden days Nintendo liked to keep their games controversy free, and liscensing a game that let kids play the role of God himself would probably start more than a few protests from religious groups. The only other difference (besides the text being in Kanji) is the manual. The Japanese manual is WAY more expansive and does a much better job of explaining the different modes in the game and elaborating on the plot. The U.S. manual feels pathetic compared to the Japanese one. I encourage you to check out a few pages of the Japanese manual below, especially the beautiful pictures on the story pages.
